<h6 style="text-align: center;">I am running because I believe in Alaska, I believe in the constitution,</h6><h6 style="text-align: center;">and I believe in government of, by and for the People.</h6><p>I'm ready to defend our communities' access to the things that bring a sense of stability and well-being to daily life: food, healthcare, fair energy prices, and a quality education for our children. These are bare minimum standards that we should be meeting for the people of Alaska, who are the hardiest, most inventive, and freedom-loving people you will find anywhere.&nbsp;</p><p>58 years in Alaska has given me a truly unique perspective. I've hunted, packed moose and caribou, fished, dip-netted, and harvested Alaska's bounty my entire life. I have worked since I was 14, graduated Su-Valley in 1983 and received my Associates Degree at University of Alaska - Fairbanks.</p><p>I have a long history of serving my community:</p><p>Board Member Experience:</p><ul><li><p>Northern Valley Health Coalition (President)</p></li><li><p>Sunshine Community Health Center (President)</p></li><li><p>Upper Susitna Food Pantry</p></li><li><p>Mat-Su Convention &amp; Visitors Bureau (President)</p></li><li><p>Denali Arts Council</p></li><li><p>Talkeetna Historical Society</p></li><li><p>Elected to and served on the Mat-Su School Board in 2008.</p></li></ul><p>I have also worked on the following working groups:</p><ul><li><p>Regional Aviation System Plan:&nbsp; tasked to determine how best to encourage growth in aviation and promote aviation safety and compatible development.</p></li><li><p>Appointed to the State of Alaska public/private organization:&nbsp; ATIA – Alaska Travel Industry Association 2009 &amp; 2010</p></li><li><p>ATIA Marketing Committee with an annual budget of 10 – 15 Million.</p></li></ul><p>I have served my community the same way I plan to serve the people of my district: a lot of hard work, positive attitude, with passion and all-in dedication. My top priority will always be to advocate for District 30 and to work with others in the legislature to ensure the needs of working families in Alaska remain front and center.</p><p>Twenty years at the Talkeetna State Airport, nine seasons in Antarctica, starting my own business and helping to start the non-profit (Northern Valley Health Coalition) has provided in depth experience in all aspects of business management, including: Book-keeping &amp; Tax Preparation, Contracts &amp; Negotiation, Federal Aviation Regulations, Crisis Management, Drug/Alcohol Program Management, and hiring/termination/training and mentoring people.</p><p>Five of the nine years in Antarctica involved working for a sub-contractor of SPAWAR (Space and Naval Warfare) in the Air Traffic Control Department where I gained invaluable experience in an International context: conducting Helicopter and Drone Flight Coordination, Flight Following, MOU/MOA, training people and working as a team in high stress situations.</p><p>My husband is a retired Air Force Pararescueman, whose motto is: "That others may live". He and I share a passion for service. He has served America in every foreign conflict since 1983.  Also, his love of hunting, fishing and the outdoors is what drew us together and keeps us close. I am so blessed to have my families full and unstinting support in this endeavor to represent you in Juneau.</p><p></p>

<p>In the 70's Jay Hammond, Alaska's 4th governor, successfully created the Alaska Trans Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) and Alaska's sovereign wealth fund, the PFD. At that time he talked about TAPS tiding Alaska over until renewables could be developed.</p><p>Here is a section of Jay Hammond's speech delivered at his inauguration on January 18, 1975. His words have been a touchstone for me, showing a balanced and responsible approach to development in Alaska.</p><p><strong>(My Favorite part is bolded, mid-way through.)</strong></p><p>"... the concerns and choices for Alaska's future which I truly hold are common fare with those of most Alaskans. Campaigns, regrettably, too often are comprised of illusion, imagery and innuendo. Facts obscure beneath detritus strewn along the trail. Once swept aside, I am convinced we'll find we have much more in common than in conflict. Most Alaskans recognize, as do I, that ever closer on us swirl forces which will change this land forever. That change is foreordained is not disputed: but whether with it change will bring more contentment than concern; more comfort than calamity. Most Alaskans, as do I, believe already we've set course along uncertain paths into an unknown future. Though most are of accord as to the dreams and aspirations which in our hopes would flourish there, we've too often read the sign posts passed to learn where we had been instead of where we wished to go. Most Alaskans, as do I, believe the threshold of dramatic change before which we now stand may well prove either stepping stone or stumbling block; determined by the goals to which we fix the eye and if we match predestination's pace--or simply drag the feet. <span style="color: var(--color-text-accent-secondary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-text-accent-secondary);"><strong>Most Alaskans recognize that geopolitical, social, and economic forces will exert tremendous leverage to probe and then pry loose the resource wealth with which we have been so endowed. Most Alaskans, I believe, would utilize this wealth in such a way as to enhance the life of all on par with one another; to breach not broaden the gap between affluent and oppressed. My concern, and I believe those shared by most Alaskans, is with the manner and the means, the pace and the prudence with which our resource wealth is parcelled out. Quality should be our credo, not quantity on credit. Now there are those who covet our largesse and view Alaska as a resource bank from which they would withdraw, and make no mistake, withdraw they will, for already they have passbooks and hold seats upon the board. But withdrawals from a bank are made in many ways: funds told out by tellers in sound commerce, bearing interest, or blasted from the vaults by brigands in the night, What choices that be ours must quickly be decided, guards posted and the interest rates established, lest we find a run made on the bank which leaves us naught but shambles of a future which may still be ours. Now, it has been charged that I'm a conservationist, to that charge I cheerfully plead guilty. Of course, I am and can't believe that all, or most of us at least, are bound together by concerns with all matters deemed environmental. For environmentalism surely does involve much more than simply watching birds and banning litter. Our physical surroundings are but one aspect of the issue. There are, as well, environs social and environs economic, to say nothing of the spirit. Heaven help us should we not remain aware that "environment" is not an obscene, four-letter word, it has eleven letters, just as does the word "development." Should we deny the one while we decry the other, we will have squandered opportunities and obligations which may never come within our grasp again. Our guilt will never be obscured beneath the shards of dreams we will have dashed for all those generations of Alaskans yet to come.</strong></span><strong> </strong>Inevitably, to some degree the euphoria of expectation early attending the onrush of development has soured somewhat; marinated in the income-corroding acid of inflation, steeped in the bitter gall of immigrating competition for Alaskan jobs. Too often governmental palliatives whipped up to cure these ailments are ill-prescribed or inappropriate: band-aids to bind a broken limb, or an autopsy to extricate a splinter. Too many of our bureaucratic brainchildren are spawned in subterfuge, conceived in confusion and some of the worst, which do not mercifully abort in blunder, are laid at the doorstep of protesting foster parents who are compelled to feed the foundlings with their own tax dollars. Far better in my view that these historic roles should be reversed. The citizen should be permitted paternity of programs he deems worthy of adoption; not obligated to endure the end product of someone else's misconception. In recent days many have been dismayed by abuse of power held by those within high office. This administration's thrust will be to do whatever funds and circumstances will permit to enable citizens to take upon themselves a greater portion of self-government. It is my firm conviction that far more tolerable are burdens borne upon one's back if self-imposed, than are many so-called blessings bureaucratically bestowed. This administration will strive to evidence to all that we recognize our role as public servants and never as your lords and masters. Now, none but a fool would fail to perceive the limitations of himself when faced with leading others. No one could ever lead but were there those who'd follow. Thus, joint effort--team work--is a requisite that some at times are prone to lose sight of. Alaskans need each other. Yet, I have found within our ranks disturbing cleavages and disputations. We who should be focused on high common cause sometimes instead seem fractured by uncommon fears, intolerance and base suspicions. There are polarization gaps which grow between our many peoples. Rural versus urban, native versus white, developer versus conservationist. We must attempt to span these gaps before they widen into gulfs. To do so, across them let's build bridges, not hurl brickbats. It serves no good and useful purpose to mock those who will not march in lock-step with our thinking, we should strip off the labels some append and start afresh aware that we are all Alaskans..."</p>

<p>My husband and I built our own off-grid house. Solar provides the lion's share of our power needs except for a few months in the winter. Using energy storage and solar we have reduced our fuel bill well over half. Alaska is missing the boat if we do not utilize all power resources available to us.</p><p>Develop small to mega sized resource and energy projects that are both environmentally and financially sound: for the benefit of the Alaskan people, with a vision towards balance and consideration of future generations.</p><p>Streamline and make wise appointments to State Energy organizations - quality, ethics and expertise over politics.</p><p>Enhance the reliability and efficiency of the power transmission system in the Railbelt region using mid-length storage on the Intertie and by upgrading the lines.</p><p>Diversify, many small projects can help communities in big ways.</p><p>Build the AK LNG with a priority for in state gas for Alaskan residents - while preserving Alaska's long term economic interest.</p>

<ul><li><p>Inflation proof &amp; fully fund our schools.</p></li><li><p>Our kids are our future and our school districts are running deficits and unable to plan ahead.</p></li><li><p>Education is one of the primary responsibilities of a State.  I support funding school maintenance.</p></li><li><p>Bring back sports &amp; music.</p></li><li><p>Let's fix this now and stop the out-migration due to the sub-par opportunities for our kids.</p></li></ul>

<p>Increase funding, forward fund and inflation proof.  Expand early education.  Conduct the overdue repairs our schools need.</p>

<ul><li><p>Negotiate with the Federal Government to maximize benefits of Medicaid/Expansion. Many states maximize their benefits in this way and I think we should be at the table for resources that guarantee the health and well being of Alaskan residents.</p></li><li><p>Ensure companies making profit from Alaska's resources contribute a fair share  to Alaskans as stated in our *Constitution.  Close the S Corp loophole and return to a simple competitive gross calculation on oil tax.</p></li><li><p>Corporate Income taxes on out-of-state digital and internet businesses.</p></li><li><p>Ensure a balanced budget.</p></li><li><p>Protect our sovereign Permanent Fund.</p></li><li><p>Development of sustainable agriculture, along with policies that promote greater food self-sufficiency to improve food security.</p></li></ul><p>*Alaska Constitution, Article 8, Section 2:  The legislature shall provide for the utilization, development, and conservation of all natural resources belonging to the State, including land and waters, for the maximum benefit of its people.</p>

<p>Institute policies that are friendly to building homes &amp; apartment buildings, modulars and tiny home communities to address the affordable housing crisis<strong>.</strong></p><p>Institute a tax on out-of-state persons and corporate entities that own more than one home in Alaska.</p><p>Develop innovative, low-cost solutions to improve health equity, including robust telehealth options for rural areas.</p><p>Support aging-in-place programs so Alaskans aren't left with no other choice but a nursing home.</p><p>Advantage the programs available for rehabilitation to address the opioid crisis.</p><p>Stop the destruction of Alaska Fisheries by trawling/bycatch.</p><p></p>

<h2><span style="color: var(--color-headline-secondary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-headline-secondary);">An Economy that Works for all Alaskans</span></h2>

<ul><li><p>Equal justice for all: rich, poor, well connected, elected official, or not.</p></li><li><p>Protect the PFD and a fair share for Alaskans.</p></li><li><p>Unlimited anonymous money in elections is not a winner for the people. We can, at the State level, remove the ability of special interests and corporations to hammer us with ads and lies. Hawaii did it, so can we: <a href="https://apnews.com/article/corporate-campaign-money-citizens-united-hawaii-71a28bc7e8f6e0279b31e999f222519a">https://apnews.com/article/corporate-campaign-money-citizens-united-hawaii-71a28bc7e8f6e0279b31e999f222519a</a></p></li><li><p>Ensure that we take Conflicts of Interest seriously, so that Legislators with direct financial ties recuse from voting (especially on mega-projects that have long-term financial impacts on Alaska and all residents).</p></li><li><p>All Alaskans' voter data (including social security information) was forwarded to the Federal Government. This is an ethics breach of the citizens' right to privacy.</p></li><li><p>For State Boards and Commissions: Have an application system that quantifies the experience, aims, interests and backgrounds of applicants, confirmed in a bipartisan manner, to get the best candidates.  Ensure negotiations are solely for the benefit of "the people" of Alaska.</p></li></ul>

<h2><span style="color: var(--color-headline-secondary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-headline-secondary);">Ethics in Government:</span><br><span style="color: var(--color-headline-secondary); text-decoration-color: var(--color-headline-secondary);">Accountability to Alaskans</span><br></h2>

<p>Holding signs for drivers to see, some Talkeetna residents gathered outside Village Park to protest various actions of the Trump administration this past Saturday. The demonstration was one of the many nationwide “No Kings” protests organized to protest Trump’s executive orders, major federal layoffs, and more.</p><p>Talkeetna resident Sandra Loomis organized the protest. She said the nationwide protests are a fight for freedom and that she felt it was important for her to join.</p><p>“My grandfather was in the Battle of the Bulge,” she explained, “My family’s been fighting for this freedom that we all enjoy for my whole life and before me, and it’s my turn now.”</p><p>Loomis said she hopes the protest results in more people speaking out and getting involved.</p><p>“Do something. Send a postcard. Call your congressman representative. If enough people speak out, it’s already working in some ways,” she said.</p><p>Loomis added that this local protest won’t be the last. She said she plans to help organize more in the coming months.</p>

<p><a href="https://alaskabeacon.com/2025/05/02/may-day-alaska-rallies-support-workers-and-protest-trump-threats-to-democracy/">https://alaskabeacon.com/2025/05/02/may-day-alaska-rallies-support-workers-and-protest-trump-threats-to-democracy/</a></p><p>In Talkeetna, organizer Sandra Loomis said a group of 54 people rallied for May Day, and to protest the Trump agenda. “We marched down Main Street and got a nice picture right there on the river, where you can see Denali behind and did a nice chant, ‘8647,’” she said, referring to the anti-Trump chant to “86,” or reject, the 47th president.&nbsp;</p><p>“People are fed up and just tired of this, all this open corruption from the White House,” Loomis said. “And taking away all our services, taking away our libraries, taking away research, taking away our rights, taking away economic equity. People are fed up and tired of it. It’s way, way, way beyond the pale, and too far, and the blatant disregard of the Constitution and the Supreme Court orders.”</p><p>Loomis said Talkeetna residents are also concerned around the federal firings, cuts to programs like Medicaid and the recent <a href="https://alaskapublic.org/news/politics/washington-d-c/2025-04-29/doge-cut-ends-2-decades-of-americorps-in-sitka">cut</a> to Americorps. She expressed outrage and frustration at the Trump administration threatening the press, law firms and universities. Of special concern was Trump’s recent refusal to acknowledge that an image of alleged gang tattoos on a man deported to El Salvador was Photoshopped, “blatantly lying to everyone, right to our faces and like, we know they’re lying!”&nbsp;</p><p>She said the actions go against the core values and principles that the country was founded on. “My family, multiple generations of my family, have fought for the freedoms that we’ve enjoyed,” she said. “One of the things that has made America such an amazing place to live — it’s because we have diversity. It’s because we accept all religions and respect each other.”&nbsp;</p>
